Hugo

My partner and I had our French bulldog Hugo stolen while he was under Tandem Canines’ care.

They ended up taking him to a public park (McAllister Park) when we clearly did not agree to this in the original contract. A single day before he was supposed to come home to us, someone allegedly stole him from Jessica (the trainer) at g*npoint at this park. We were and still are devastated by this.

Now, initially, we felt horrible that this happened to her, but the subsequent lack of communication with us on a full refund and dodging us when we were looking for answers from them is how we ended up filing a lawsuit against them in court. We actually didn’t get a refund at all from them – we did a chargeback with our credit card company when we realized they weren’t willingly going to give us a refund in good faith. On top of that, we were attempting to file a claim with their business insurance ourselves since they had given us the runaround about it for awhile. When we finally found the name of the insurance company and spoke to someone there, they mentioned that they didn’t have their insurance until a week AFTER the incident happened, which we thought was suspicious.

All in all, we ended up suing for the value of our boy, the hours and days we spent looking for him, as well as the costs for a private investigator. We ended up getting nothing. We were lucky to even get our chargeback from Chase, but not by any good faith that they had.

Now for the rest: Firstly was the full payment being asked for up front 3 weeks ahead of time, which we obliged to. In addition, we received approximately 2 total updates while our French bulldog Hugo was in their care. Also, when his stuff was returned to us after he was stolen, not a single bit of his food was used, so I’m not sure what they were even feeding him during this time. I wish this were the worst of it all, but not having Hugo for all this time has been the most painful and traumatic experience of our lives. Not a single day goes by where we aren’t thinking about him or wishing for him back.
